PlayStation Portable mentioning in article

produced for the Sony PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation Portable gaming systems, and in development for the PlayStation 3.

Gran Turismo has failed to appear on the PSP and is no longer mentioned on an PlayStation website. It should say Gran Turismo has been produced for PS1, PS2, PS3 (GT:HD) and is in rumoured to be in development for PSP. Does anyone else agree? --Mister macphisto 08:35, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

I swear... There is a Super Licence in GT2

It didn't give anything but a nice big s on your trophy screen.

  • It also unlocks the event generator in Simulation Mode, and MotorsportsLand track in Arcade Mode (time trial only). Nearly every on-line GT2 FAQ mentions this.

SoundTrack

I´ve put My Favorite Game, Cardigans Song, in GT but in fact, it is a soundtrack in GT2; However, I think it is a interesting aspect in this game since this music is big hit in Gran Turism album. (I don´t think soundtracks have usually song hits ).[1] Others notables bands in GT2: Beck, Rob Zombie, The Crystal Method, Garbage, and the Foo Fighters.12.4.195.100 22:55, 1 September 2005 (UTC)Rodrigo

Differences in GT

this wiki needs to update the complete list of Gran Turismo games,

  • Gran Turismo Concepts
  • Gran Turismo Prologue
  • GT2's incompletion, it is impossible to get to 100%
    • That was a bug in early North American "releases"; fixed in later "releases"

Red case

I own a copy of GT3 with a red case. It is an NTSC version. It also says "Not for sale". This is my second copy of GT3, and I do not know why ther are those differences. Can anybody here fill me in?

  • "Not for sale" makes me think that it's a ex-rental. As for the red box, does it have a memory card holder? Sockatume 19:02, 22 Apr 2005 (UTC)
  • I have a similar case for the PAL version. I believe it is the version of the game that was packaged with PS2s. (Hence the 'Not for sale' tag - it means not for sale separately from the bundle.) --GChris 19:34, 10 Jun 2005 (UTC)
  • I have seen the same bundling with PS2 in the NTSC market. The case, ie. the plastic, wasn't actually red, but the graphics on the paper cover (also the graphics on the game disc) were predominantly red.
  • Seems the cover color and art was changed for certain time, in accordance with PlayStation 2 30001-GT Edition, packed with the game. --Mateusc 22:22, 31 August 2005 (UTC)

New GT5 game

Theres alot of footage about GT5 and it really hasn't been mentioned the goodies and effects that were shown at E3 that needs to be addressed soon!

You're right, I did the first part of updating. Please state a source like the PS2-engine generated movies or something like that. Also everybody please sign your posts. ShotokanTuning 06:28, 30 September 2005 (UTC)

Why doesn't Gran Turismo 5 have its own article?(Myscrnnm 03:27, 14 May 2007 (UTC))

I just read in the August 2007 issue of Car and Driver (article: The Game Boys pages 101- 105: "To program another 700 cars would take at least five years," says Yamauchi. The article goes on to explain that the game will launch with a smaller number of cars, and that the rest of the cars can be bought on line as they are developed. Newsweek magazine's N'Gai Croal opins that GT5 may not be realesed until the end of 2008 "or beyond." Perhaps this is important enough to make it into the main article? Also, how come GT5 does not have it's own page? Jason Keyes 18:27, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

B-spec not described properly

The GT4 B-spec feature is mentioned in the current version of the article, but it is not made clear that it is actually a means for a player, instead of doing the driving, to let the game "drive itself". The levels of competition referred to are in the "Family Cup" races, which are similar to the Event Generator of GT2. Those races can be run in either B-spec or "A-spec" (normal driving) mode. Using your "B-spec" driver can cause it to accumulate more skill (indicated in game status pages), making it a better driver.

I don't currently feel comfortable enough to edit the main article just yet; these comments may prompt someone else to do so. (As well as functioning as a draft for my thoughts).

  • Alright, so someone had already created a separate GT4 entry. It's not clear to me (creator of this discussion section, and a probable GT addict) that the Gran Turismo series is anything more than a triviality not worthy of so many entries, but it seems the thing to do is reduce but make correct the B-spec reference here, and perhaps better detail it in the GT4 entry.

can someone add Infobox VG?

See Template:Infobox VG. Also, note that this is a series of games, rather than just one, so the article title is sort of a misnomer. --Geopgeop 06:02, 15 October 2005 (UTC)

I added the infobox, it needs serious work though. Actually I think this article should be cleaned up to cover only GT1 since the other games in the series have their own articles. -- Eagleamn 05:46, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Controversial inclusion of nitrous oxide?

Under the section about GT:4 the author describes the inclusion of nitrous oxide as 'controversial'. How is it controversial? I have never seen anyone 'against' its inclusion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 66.234.223.64 (talk • contribs)

"Serious BBS ("online") racers" tend to see it as a cheat. It seems to be especially cheating since its fitting and use won't affect your "A-spec" score for a race. In a field of 5 AI opponents identical to you (e.g. FGT series, or single model Manufacturer's series such as 2CV or Spitfire), you will get 60 A-spec points if your car is equipped with the same power, weight, downforce and tire parts as those opponents. Fitting and using nitrous won't change that score. Does that seem right? The AI never uses it. Perhaps that's the best explanation for why it's considered a cheat. Perhaps see
There's also a less public forum (which I won't link to) where someone proudly documented his 100,000 A-spec point game achieved without ever using nitrous.--SportWagon 19:37, 10 February 2006 (UTC)

Nitrous is not allowed or used in any form of track racing anywhere on the planet, as far as I know. It's not even allowed at track days. There are any number of reasons why it would be ludicrous to allow. Its presence in Gran Turismo is totally unrealistic and seems like it's there as an answer to all the ricer games. Nitrous does, of course, see use in street racing. Since Gran Turismo is about real racing, the inclusion of nitrous does seem controversial to me. 24.23.231.54 06:14, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

Extremely difficult-to-understand sentence

Note: At the 2004 Sydney Motor Show, the New York track was only available to race in the BMW 1-series in either petrol(120i) or diesel(120d). It consisted of a 2 lap race versus a second player.

I cannot understand the above. Do they mean there was a demo for that show in which only one track, the New York track was available? In the context of the section, one wonders whether or not the other three tracks were available, although restrictions were placed upon the New York track. Not to mention that it is difficult to even infer they are talking about a demo disk. --SportWagon 22:23, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

Songs in GT1

Under the Gran Turismo section, it says that the songs 'As Heaven is Wide', 'Oxyacetalene', 'Skeletal', 'Autonomy', and 'Industry' were originally only in the European version of the game and then later added to the Greatest Hits NTSC version. It also says that 'Chicken On A Bone Reworked Instrumental', 'Shade Instrumental', 'Tangerine Instrumental, and 'Sweet 16' are in the North American version. I know this is wrong because I have a pre-Greatest Hits NTSC version of Gran Turismo and 'As Heaven is Wide', 'Oxyacetalene', 'Skeletal', 'Autonomy', and 'Industry' are all in it and 'Chicken On A Bone Reworked Instrumental', 'Shade Instrumental', 'Tangerine Instrumental, and 'Sweet 16' are not. Is it possible that whoever wrote those parts got the songs backwards and that Chicken on a Bone, etc were originally only in the European version and then added to the NTSC? Or that those songs were never in the NTSC version and whoever wrote that was just misinformed? --TBIRallySport 22:32, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

GT Concept 2001 Tokyo

Shouldn't this title have its own headline on the GT page with the other Concept titles? At the moment, I've added the "2001 Tokyo" onto the article. Hopefully I'll "beef up" the content and add a little more detail about it. Feel free to remove it(within reason) or add upon what I have at the moment.

GT3 J-spec

I understand there is also the J-spec Japan version of the GT3 which includes the coveted Diablo clone and an american release which has a sane soundtrack unlike the european one. --blades 22:16, May 6, 2004 (UTC)

GT4 section

This section of the article duplicates the specific article about Gran Turismo 4. As there is more information there, the GT4 section here should be slimmed down considerably to provide basic factual information only, and readers should be directed to the main article. Car Damage in GT5 can affect your car

This one right here that it cannot use car damage. Because it will affect the car in GT5 in the release of 2007. You are likely to lose your car if it damages too much. I still refuse to have damage in the fifth series of Gran Turismo 5. Anything Else 10:05 AM, 15 May 2006

I just read in August 2007's Car and Driver that damage will be included. (The Game Boys, pages 101- 105.) Jason Keyes 18:30, 6 August 2007 (UTC)

GT4 Mobile will release on a Mobile Phone or PSP

Why would they name it GT4 Mobile, if they say mobile, then it has to release on a Mobile Phone instead the PSP. This is utterly confusing. Anything Else 10:36 AM, 16 May 2006

Mobile just means it can be moved around, it has nothing to do with cellphones. Besides, I'd imagine there's a good chance that the name will be different when it is finally released. TBIRallySport 02:59, 30 May 2006 (UTC)

I don't think GT4 Mobile released on the PSP. I'll say that it released on a Mobile Phone, or... Anything Else

Then wouldn't they call it GT4 Cell? Mobile Phones are only called so in European countries (usually), and cell phones in America. The mobile name is only reffering to the portability of it, as TBIRallySport said. Kirbysuperstar 15:02, 06 July 2006

HD redirects

Under "see also", the link for Gran Turismo HD redirects to the top of the page. This isn't the uncyclopedia entry for "recursion." However, I'm new to wiki, and I don't wanna just start deleting stuff and get yelled at. Roffler 20:15, 27 June 2006 (UTC)

Split GT3?

For games as popular as Gran Turismo 3, perhaps we should make a separate article for this as well? McDonaldsGuy 23:03, 11 July 2006 (UTC)

Gran Turismo 3: A-Spec. ENeville 18:47, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Jeremy Clarkson, real life, etc.

An advanced player will be able to judge his performance by the realistic lap times. According to the developers, a professional driver was invited to set times using the same car on the Nürburgring Nordschleife circuit, and the GT4 lap times were within 2% of the real life equivalent. However, in stark comparison, Jeremy Clarkson of the British automobile show Top Gear attempted to beat his GT4 time on Laguna Seca in a Honda NSX, but came up short. His real life time of 1:57 was greater than his GT4 time of 1:41.148. In actuality, Clarkson used a Honda NSX-R in the GT4 game but drove an Acura NSX at Laguna Seca. The NSX-R is a lighter and faster version of the original NSX, therefore, Clarkson's virtual and real-world comparison was flawed.

Could and should citations be added for the above Jeremy Clarkson anecdote? I would guess he used "sports tires" in the game, rather than "normal" (similar to those called "simulation" in GT3), and that would account for a good few seconds a lap. (My rough estimate would say more like 5 seconds rather than the observed 16, however). It might be very difficult to track down documentation that detailed, however.--SportWagon 17:52, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps as a start...

About Gran Turismo 4 HD

Only 4 tracks?! But what about Laguna Seca, Cote'd'Azur, Special Stage Route 11, 5 and a Clubman and all the tracks of Gran Turismo 4 original version? 4 tracks are not enough. I hope they put Lamborghini cars, Porsche cars and Ferrari cars because from the last time, Kazunori Yamauchi did not have the time to make Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches. The GT fans are not waiting forever, I know it. Best Gamer 24 July 2006

Can anyone tell me why Gran Turismo 4 HD wants to put just 4 tracks and not like Trial Mountain Circuit, Rome Circuit, Swiss Alps and many, many more tracks?! This is not true why they put only 4 tracks. Can the game actually transfer the original GT4 data? I still hope that game cannot put car damdage. Best Gamer 3 August 2006

SportWagon, I don't know why would the creator only put 4 tracks in Gran Turismo HD. it is not enough. What about Swiss Alps, Tahiti Maze, Tahiti Circuti, High Speed Ring, Special Stage Routes 5 and 11, Tsukuba Circuit, Trial Mountain Circuit and the rest of the tracks? That will not be ever enough, and I still hope there is no damage for this game. Otherwise, with damage, you may lose your ride if it gets too damaged, increase the price of your car, or you'll lose the race. Best Gamer 21 August 2006

It only currently has four tracks because it is designed to showcase the performance of the new more powerful Playstation 3. If you want more tracks then wait for Vision Gran Turismo. You also say "Kazunori Yamauchi did not have the time to make Lamborghinis, Ferraris and Porsches." Please give a source for this because as far as I know those cars are not in the game due to licencing issues. (I'm still looking for my souce :p) Sparky132 14:46, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Oh yeah, that. I should wait for Vision Gran Turismo to come out. Licensing Issues? So that is why they can't put Ferrari, Porsche and lamborghini. I must've forgot or something. Best Gamer 23 August 2006

Does anyone but me realise that the article states there will be ten vehicles? From multiple sources i've read this is true. Only ten vehicles! For me that's not enought compared to previous GT's unless this will be free in some way! --86.130.120.6 16:37, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

Split?

This article is massive, and has too many sections for it to be a viable source of information on anything specific. Perhaps the GT4 sections should be split into a new article? - Gerardtalk 16:29, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Well there has been for some time Gran Turismo 4. The issue would seem to be how much of a summary of that is appropriate here, and exactly how the GT4 info from here should be moved there. (Obviously redundancy within the GT4 article itself should be avoided, but perhaps some info should be removed entirely, and info which relates GT4 to the entire series might be more appropriate left here). In my case, even as a GT-fan I don't feel the game deserves more than a couple of paragraphs in an encyclopedia. I mean, even the entire GT series is rated as a game of "low importance" within gaming (above--today anyway). So I am disinclined to help add more petty detail to the GT4 article.--SportWagon 17:37, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Note also that Gran Turismo 4 Car List was recently deleted.--SportWagon 17:36, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I'd second that. I think the GT4 section is too big; one paragraph would be appropriate, as with those of the other versions. And I protest that GT is important. ENeville 16:51, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
Since this split was proposed a while back, a full split isn't really fitting here, and there's not been much buzz on the idea, I'm going to remove the split template. ENeville 16:54, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

The main candidates for splitting I see at this point would be Gran Turismo Concepts and demo discs. ENeville 18:53, 4 September 2006 (UTC)

Damage in GT1

There was damage in GT1, but it was not very noticeable. 67.188.172.165 20:45, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

I've never heard about that. Are you referring to getting dirty and needing washing? Can you give more details, although a citation would be good.--SportWagon 21:41, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
Yes it was in GT1. It would effect the car's handling and performance however there was no visual damage. Sparky132 11:10, 21 August 2006 (UTC)
Yes to damage in GT1. It was only noticeable if you were really looking for it...Ben 01:50, 29 August 2006 (UTC)

I own GT1 and I looked. Did'nt see any damage. Only dirt. (interpol007)

Unclear

Also, as evidently shown in first installment, as the game had a majority percentage of Japanese cars, Yamauchi as he had a long history of Japanese car ownerships, which makes him more of a Japanese car enthusiast.

What? 67.188.172.165 20:49, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Looks like the typical US Chauvinism which is somehow surprised that a game originating from Japan has a preponderance of Japanese cars represented. Well, the sentence is badly structured on top of that. Myself, I'd just delete the sentence, so I'm not inclined to correct the obvious errors.--SportWagon 21:39, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

"Overview"

To satisfy the person who claimed the intro was too long, I shortened it. But I wimped out and created an "Overview" section from most of the old introduction. I think my new introduction, except for possible minor tweaks, is fine. I don't think it needs lengthening; perhaps it could be even shortened! I don't intend the "Overview" section to be permanent, however. It could be merged with the next section in some way, or perhaps parts of it should be scattered about the rest of the article. Hmm. This is the second shortening. Perhaps User:ReyBrujo should decide whether to remove the warning, and perhaps someone should decide whether previous shortening was actually adequate.--SportWagon 21:42, 28 July 2006 (UTC)

The lead guidelines are clear. The lead, as of now, is much better. -- ReyBrujo 05:17, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Why do I get this discussion from the Gran Turismo page?

Someone took it upon themselves to make Gran Turismo (video game) be about GT1 only. Is that what is wanted? Anyhoo, when I try to get to the discussion for Gran Turismo (video game) I get redirected here. If we are going to keep the separate Gran Turismo (video game) article, careful wording needs to be used to make it very clear it is about the first game only. And someone should arrange that it can have its own discussion page again. Right now it's very confusing. You go to Gran Turismo (video game), then select "discussion", and end up here (at Talk:Gran_Turismo (series) ), so that "article" doesn't take you back to the article you are expecting. E.g. try the link here... Talk:Gran Turismo (video game) I have half an idea how to undo that talk redirect, but am not familiar with the process. And I am also unsure that is "what is wanted". P.S. Links to the current page should render as links. Bleah!--SportWagon 16:54, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

Fixed. This phenomenon was the result of an article split, I think. The wording at Gran Turismo (video game) is okay at this point, though it might use some improvement (... along with the rest of the article). ENeville 18:47, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
BTW: Wikipedia:Naming conventions (computer and video games), not that it really answers anything. ENeville 18:50, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Response/Criticisms

I think Criticisms should be removed entirely, and Response (if it exists) should be retitled and focus on noteworthy consequences of the series, such as effects on vehicle purchasing patterns (cited, of course). Wikipedia is not a venue for debate, and section headings like these simple invite controversy. ENeville 18:56, 7 September 2006 (UTC)

Perhaps see Talk:Gran Turismo 4. I made similar suggestions wrt Criticisms. Yes, it invites vandalism, but enough people say it is a necessary part of NPOV. I think my strongest argument, still not accepted, is that a fact placed in a Criticisms section can imply a POV even when, placed elsewhere, the same fact would be NPOV.--SportWagon 20:29, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
I looked over the GT4 discussion and accept the balance argument, though I agree with your implicit NPOV slant point. I think my first post was a little strong because the criticisms part had grown out of control, which I now see as having happened because the fannism in the rest of article had gone too far. ENeville 03:29, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

GT: HD microtransactions

I see there is a brief mention about this in the article as it currently stands, but perhaps potential editors might be interested in a quick look at this? Between $426.50 and $975? Perhaps it's about time I think about getting myself a Neo-Geo...--Dreaded Walrus 11:02, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

Split Gran Turismo HD

I think it's time Gran Turismo HD be split off, as it inevitably must be. With release of the Playstation 3 looming, activity on this section is going to light up like an electrical storm (its edit count is already superseding the overall article's, I think). Until the game actually comes out, I propose that the info here be extremely limited, like one sentence (with a link to the main Gran Turismo HD article, of course). ENeville 18:23, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

Agree: It's getting rather lengthy.

Nearly all Trivia Should Be In Game-Specific Articles

Stuff specific to a single version, e.g. Nike One in GT4, should be removed from here, after making sure it's mentioned in the corresponding game-specific article ( Gran Turismo 4 in that case).--SportWagon 23:44, 26 September 2006 (UTC)

I was just on my way here to say the same (after noticing yet more had been added). ENeville 03:31, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

HD price

  • Before the microtransactions, how much is the Gran Turismo HD disc that includes no cars and no tracks? (Though I really shouldn't be expressing personal opinion here I think it should be free to have a game disc that initially contains only menus). 69.119.252.174 22:43, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Trivia

its said on trivia that a remixed version of the song "My favourite game" by the cardigans replace the original song (wich by the way,as in all original versions, its "Moon over the castle") in the gt2 intro in the us and pal versions. While the european version intro have an remixed version of "my favourite game" song, the US version feature the original version of the song, unremixed.

The Trivia section

I'm the one who tagged it with {{verylong-section}}, and the reason I did that is because most of the trivia items are for a specific game in the GT series, and not the series in general. As such, those items should be moved into the article covering the game which they reference. The tone of most of the trivia items needs checking as well - second person ("you") is not appropriate in an encyclopedia. — Wwagner 04:05, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

I got bored and took care of this. I'll put an HTML comment in the markup here to the effect of "if you have specific trivia for one of the GT games, put it in that article, not here". — Wwagner 07:09, 18 February 2007 (UTC)

References and Criticisms

Taking a cue from the Gran Turismo 4 article, I have set up a references section. Look at the end of the Criticisms section to see how to add a citation. If you cite one reference multiple times, it will be handled reasonably. (See Gran Turismo 4). I also found a citation which criticized the license tests. How about that. --SportWagon 20:59, 22 February 2007 (UTC)

CLEANUP

Well, I noticed that someone decided to make major sweeping changes to the article without talking about it here first! I don't think the changes have made the article better (deleting the entire box on the top-right was a good idea?). Discussion, please! |_|VonShroom 19:55, 26 April 2007 (UTC)|_|

Description

The first game in the Gran Turismo series of racing simulations.

You can choose between the arcade version (featuring classic cars such as Corvettes and Aston Martins) or the simulation, which is the true heart of the game. The simulation starts you on an entire racing career beginning with a cheap used car and second-rate tracks. You will find yourself longing for the Dodge Viper as your sad $10,000 starting fund puts you behind the wheel of a used Honda Prelude or Mazda RX-7. As you win races, acquire money, and earn advanced licenses, you are able to buy better cars and race in more competitive matches right up to the GT World Cup.

Features more than 140 cars.
