KakaoTalk (Korean: 카카오톡), or sometimes KaTalk, is a popular messenger app available on iOS and Android that owns millions of users all over countries. Speaking of the KakaoTalk recovery topic, we've discussed a lot when people seek solutions to recover deleted Line messages, restore Kik messenger photos or recover Hike chats. They're mobile messaging applications alike in functions, so the recovery methods are pretty much the same, too.

Always think first to restore chat logs from KakaoTalk backup

Before we give the general KakaoTalk recovery solutions, it's always suggested to restore lost or deleted chats, messages, conversations, multimedia images and video clips from KakaoTalk backup. Don't miss that. 

Note: restoring from KakaoTalk backup only works for users who have turned on the auto backup function on KakaoTalk app. To backup KakaoTalk data, go to Settings -> Background/Chat Settings -> Export messages. That's where settings are set up to save previous chats.

How to Recover Deleted KakaoTalk Chats & Messages from iCloud on iOS?

If no backup is auto saved there, try third-party iOS data recovery software to restore KakaoTalk data on iOS devices. The recovery chance would be much greater if KakaoTalk app data has been syncing to iCloud. Just download KakaoTalk chat history, messages or photos from iCloud backup with EaseUS MobiSaver for iOS. Step 1. Download EaseUS MobiSaver and launch it.

Step 2. Select the recovery mode: Recover from iCloud Backup. Enter your iCloud account and password to login. Among the iCloud backups in your account, choose KakaoTalk you want to extract and click "Scan" button. The software will start downloading the backup.

Step 3. Click "Recover" by selecting the messages, photos or videos you lost on KakaoTalk.

The newest version of LINE (4.5.0) includes the “Hidden Chat” feature, which lets users send time-limited messages to one another.
*This feature is unsupported on Chinese and Japanese accounts and on the BlackBerry, Firefox, Nokia, Windows Phone, and PC versions of LINE.

Hidden Chats take place in a separate 1-to-1 chat room from regular chats. Text and image messages are sent in a secure state, and after the receiver taps on the message, the contents will only be displayed for a pre-set amount of time. After that time limit is exceeded, the message will be deleted automatically.

This feature is perfect for sending messages containing sensitive information or images that you only want the recipient to see.

1. Open a 1-to-1 chat with the person you’d like to message as normal, and tap “Hidden Chat” from the menu at the top of the chat room. Hidden chats cannot be used in group chats or multi-person chats. 

2. Send messages or images in the Hidden Chat room as usual. The Timer (amount of time recipient can view the message) is set to 1 minute by default, but the time can be changed from the menu at the top of the screen.

Selectable times – 2, 5, or 10 seconds; 1 minute; 1 hour; 1 day; 1 week

Types of messages that can be sent – text, stickers, location info, contact info, and images. (Video messages, voice messages, snap movies, albums, and notes cannot be sent.

 

3. After the recipient has finished viewing the message, it will be deleted from the chat room. After the set time has been exceeded, viewed messages will be automatically deleted from LINE’s servers. All unopened messages are automatically deleted from LINE’s servers after a short term period.

1. A chat room will open as normal when the message arrives.

2. After you tap the hidden message, the contents will display for the amount of time set by the sender of the message.

3. After the timer ends, the message will be automatically deleted.

You can restore your chat history if you have already backed up your data on KakaoTalk. Your backed up data will be stored in our cloud server and be available for restoring. You can also back up and restore between different devices/OS. 

* Please read the following instructions carefully.

[How to Back Up]

1. Go to More > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.

2. Tap the option "Chat Backup" once again.

3. Set up a password to encrypt your data.

    * Please make sure you remember your password. You will not be able to restore the data if you forget your password.

4. Wait until the backup process is completed.

    * Do not launch another app while backup is in progress.

    * It might take awhile depending on the size of the data.

    * Data charges may apply if you are connected to a 3G/LTE network.

5. Once the backup is completed, please read the instructions and be sure to remember the expiry date for your data.

[How to Restore]

1. Verify your phone number and log in with your Kakao Account.

    * If you skip logging in, you will be regarded as a new user and all your previous data will be removed. In order to restore your backed up data, you must log in at this step.

2. If you have already backed up your chat history on KakaoTalk, you can restore your data after entering your profile information. Please check the backup date and OS information of your data and then proceed by tapping "Restore."

3. Enter your password you have set to back up your chat history.

    * You will not be able to restore your chat history if you forget your password, so please make sure you remember it.

4. Wait until the restore process is completed.

    * Do not launch another app while restoring is in progress.

    * It might take awhile depending on the size of the data.

    * Data charges may apply if you are connected to a 3G/LTE network.

5. Once restoring is completed, tap the Get Started button and start using KakaoTalk.

[NOTE]

* Only text messages will be backed up. Note that the following data will not be backed up: 

    - Photos, videos and text messages over 1,000 characters 

    - Text messages in secret chats and open chats 

* You can restore your data within 14 days of the backup. The data will be permanently deleted after 14 days of the backup. 

* You can restore your backed up data when you reinstall KakaoTalk. Don't forget to log in with your Kakao Account after verifying your phone number. If you don't log in with the Kakao Account you used to back up your data, you will NOT be able to restore your data. Please make sure you log in with your Kakao Account at this step.

* You cannot restore your data if you unregister from KakaoTalk or delete your Kakao Account.

* When you restore your chat history, additional chat history after the time of backup will also be restored. However, only the last 3 days of your chat history will be restored.
