Flight Data Log Viewer DJI Phantom 3 and Inspire 1

Overview

DJI Phantom 3 and Inspire 1 drones both record important information from each flight, and you can download these flight logs onto your computer. Having these flight records can be useful for warranty or repair claims, in the event of a crash or dispute, or simply to collect detailed information about your flight. These files are encrypted, but with a third party website, you can view more detailed information from your drone's flight.

Downloading flight logs

  1. Power up the Phantom 3 or Inspire 1 drone and launch the DJI GO App. Enter the camera view.

  2. In the MC Settings menu, choose Advanced Settings. You can find the MC Settings on the top left corner of the screen, directly to the right of the Home icon.

  3. Scroll down, and select Enter flight date mode.

  4. The DJI GO app will prompt you to connect the drone to a PC or Mac via USB cable. The USB port on the Phantom 3 is located on the front or nose of the drone. On the Inspire 1, the USB port is located on the rear of the drone under the taillight.

  5. Once you connect the drone to your computer, you will be able to access the internal files from the drone. Here, you can copy the .DAT files onto your computer. These are the files that can be viewed with our Log Viewer.

  6. Using our Log Viewer Utility, you can decrypt the flight logs for easy viewing, and you can export to different file types like .CSV files.

  7. Within the DJI GO app you can also format the data recorder by choosing Format Data Recorder. This will erase all the internal files from the drone.

How to Retrieve the Flight Record File from DJI Drones

Whenever you fly a DJI Drone, it is creating a flight record. These files are stored in an encrypted txt format and contain information you want, like flight path and where the gimbal was pointing. You need to retrieve the flight record files from the DJI controller to access this information. By using our Video GeoTagger (FREE and PRO) and LineVision software, you can decrypt and parse these records. After parsing, you can use these files to geotag your DJI-recorded videos!

Retrieving the Flight Record TXT files

Android

Android controllers can use a USB connection to retrieve the flight records. Once connected, allow your PC to mount the device as file storage. Then open the folder DJI > dji.go.v4 > FlightRecord. Depending on DJI application you are using, the flight records may also be found under DJI\dji.pilot or DJI\dji.pilot.pad.

You will see the flight records listed as DJIFlightRecord_DATE_[TIME].txt. Simply copy the files you’d like over to your PC and they are ready to be used for geotagging with their associated video.

DJI CrystalSky

The DJI CrystalSky tablet is a customized Android offering pre-loaded with DJI GO and DJI Pilot applications. It has a similar workflow to other Android devices. To begin, connect the tablet to your PC using the micro-USB port on the CrystalSky and allow it to be mounted as a file storage device. Then navigate to DJI > com.dji.industry.pilot > FlightRecord.

The flight records share the same format of DJIFlightRecord_DATE_[TIME].txt as other platforms. These files can be copied to the desired location on your PC for use with Video GeoTagger or LineVision software.

The CrystalSky interface also has a built-in file explorer that you can use to transfer flight record logs to a mounted SD card if required. From the CrystalSky home screen, tap on the Explorer icon. Then select internal memory > DJI >  dji.pilot > FlightRecord. If you are using the DJI GO application, the file path will be internal memory > DJI > dji.go.v4 > FlightRecord. Once in the correct folder, select the multi icon from the top of the screen then highlight the desired flight records. Next, tap the editor icon and copy the required files. Return to the top level and select the installed SD card. Tap the editor icon and choose to paste. The SD card can now be used to transfer a copy of the flight records to a PC.

iOS/Apple

If you are using an iPad or iPhone as a controller, you can use iTunes to retrieve the file. Begin by connecting the device using iTunes. Then you can browse to the DJI GO app under the “File Sharing” view to find the FlightRecords folder.

After you have the .txt file, you are ready to geotag video using our Video GeoTagger or LineVision applications as shown in the video below:

Knowing how to calibrate the Mavic Pro vision sensor is very important.  If the vision system error on your Mavic Pro appears, then calibration may fix the problem.

Also, if you are flying your Mavic Pro and the vision system error occurs, you need to fly the quadcopter back to you straight away.

Below we have instructions on the Mavic Pro vision sensor calibration process, along with notes and videos. There is also terrific information on the Mavic Pro Vision Positioning system.

Very importantly, there are some top tips on how to resolve the vision system error on the Mavic.

The Mavic Pro uses the GPS, Forward and Downward vision sensors to locate itself, automatically stabilize and navigate between obstacles.  The vision sensors feed essential data back to the flight controller which then responds by issuing automatic commands to avoid or hover in front of the obstacle.

If the Mavic Vision Positioning System isn’t working correctly or not at all, then there is a real possibility that the Mavic will crash.
